Reading: We discussed the difference between fiction and non-fiction. We charted several differences between the two. We started exploring non-fiction conventions (text features) and how they can help a reader find and understand text information. We learned about table of contents, index, and glossary. Writing: We started learning about the parts of speech. We read several books about nouns. We created a "Noun Town" of drawings of people, places, and things. Students worked on identifying types of nouns. We also learned that a proper noun is a specific person, place, or thing and needs a capital. Word Study: We finished working on the bossy r syllable. Students watched a video about them and went on the website Spelling City to practice spelling them. We took an assessment on Wednesday. We started learning about the -le syllable. Students noticed that the consonant that comes before -le always joins it when reading the syllable. Math: We reviewed place value concepts by creating Place Value Spiders. Students learned different ways to represent a number - base ten numerals, base ten blocks, number word, and expanded form. We reviewed the place value and measuring concepts we studied these past few weeks and took the assessment on Wednesday. We started thinking about repeating patterns of twos and arrays the rest of the week. Science:
As a fun STEAM project to promote our thinking habits, students created and innovated pumpkin lifts. They worked in groups to design a type of elevator that could lift a small pumpkin. The class really enjoyed collaborating and working hard to make "haunted" elevators. Comments are closed.
